Professionals Survey 2024 | The United Kingdom

London, United Kingdom. June 20, 2024 - Universum has officially released the results of its 2024 Talent Survey for professionals in the United Kingdom, providing key insights into the companies and sectors that are capturing the attention of the nation's professionals across various disciplines. With participation from over 18,000 professionals between September 2023 and May 2024, the survey presents fresh data, highlighting trends and employer preferences among professionals in the UK.

The report highlights significant shifts and preferences among professionals across various sectors including IT, Engineering, Business, and Humanities. Here, we explore the top five trends that will influence the UK professional market in 2024.

Key highlights of this year’s survey include:

1. Hybrid and Remote Work Preferences

Remote and hybrid work models continue to dominate the professional landscape. Professionals are increasingly seeking flexible work arrangements, with a significant percentage preferring to work remotely for most of the week, and 52% preferring at least 2 remote working days per week. The concerns around remote work primarily revolve around maintaining productivity and ensuring effective communication within teams.

"We’ve observed a persistent demand for hybrid work models. Our data shows that professionals value the flexibility and work-life balance that remote work offers," says Steve Ward, Country Manager UK at Universum

2. Emphasis on Employer Reputation and Culture

Employer reputation and workplace culture have become critical factors for job seekers. Companies that are perceived to have a positive culture and strong employer brand are more attractive to top talent. The survey revealed that 41% of professionals are influenced by a company's inspiring purpose, while 39% value ethical standards. Additionally, 36% of respondents prioritize innovation within their workplace. This trend underscores the importance for organizations to invest in their employer branding and create a supportive work environment.

"In today’s competitive job market, the reputation of an employer can make or break their ability to attract top talent. Companies need to focus on building a positive work culture to stay ahead," comments [Employee Name], [Employee Position].

3. Increased Focus on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives are gaining momentum as professionals increasingly prioritize workplaces that reflect these values. Employers with strong DEI programs are more likely to attract a diverse talent pool and foster an inclusive workplace culture, which is crucial for innovation and employee satisfaction.

"Our findings indicate that professionals are not only looking for career growth but also for employers who prioritize diversity and inclusion. This shift is essential for fostering innovation and a more equitable workplace," states Isa Wurie, Employer Brand Advisor at Universum

4. Technological Advancements and Digital Skills

The rapid advancement of technology continues to reshape the professional landscape. There is a growing demand for digital skills across all sectors, with IT professionals leading the way in adopting new technologies. The survey indicates that 50% of professionals seek professional training and development opportunities, with many emphasizing the importance of upskilling in digital technologies. This trend highlights the importance of continuous learning and upskilling to remain competitive in the job market.

5. Sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)

Sustainability and CSR are becoming increasingly important to professionals. Many are seeking employers who are committed to sustainable practices and social responsibility. This trend reflects a broader societal shift towards environmental consciousness and ethical business practices.
